Introduction to the Cherry Collection

The Collection was repropagated and moved to its present location in spring 1996. There are two representatives of each of the 316 accessions, all of which have been grafted on Colt rootstock. A spacing of 5 m x 3.5 m has been used and the Collection covers 1.1 hectares.

Cultivars in the collection are either Sweet (Prunus avium), Acid or Sour (Prunus cerasus) or Duke cherries. The latter are hybrids between Sweet and Acid types. Varieties have been planted in blocks according to type, with Sweet cherries further segregated into early, mid and late season according to recordings made at Brogdale. Unknown cultivars and seedlings are found at the end of this list.

Using the Index

There is more than one selection of some cultivars and in this case, the selection with the suffix A is believed to be true to type.
