Introduction to the Gooseberry Collection

The Gooseberry Collection (Ribes grossularia) was planted in autumn 1978 and contains 144 varieties. There are two bushes of each accession planted at 3 m x 1.5 m, covering 0.14 hectares.

Using the Index

Gooseberries cultivars are grouped according to fruit colour at full ripeness: Red, White, Green or Yellow. A short list of seedlings or unnamed seedlings follows the main list. Where the raiser or discoverer has not given the cultivar a name, it is recorded under the name of the sender, followed by a number, e.g. Eglington 1.

Key to Abbreviations

The abbreviations EM and LA denote cultivars received from East Malling and Long Ashton Research Stations, respectively.
