Orchard Mapping

From UK Malus Network Newsletter Issue 2, October 1999

The distribution of UK Malus network member orchardsUK Malus collections Orchard Mapping is fast becoming a source for expressing community heritage. It places that community at the centre of the heritage map. Many groups throughout the country are taking this up to analyse the placement of collections and orchards throughout their region. We have Mr Trevor Rogers from the Northern Fruit Group mapping orchards for the North, Mr Keith Goverd from the West Country where there is an abundance of cider apples as well and the Hertfordshire Orchards Initiative are in the process of locating orchards within their county. This is a very time consuming project but provides extremely valuable information May I congratulate these dedicated people for taking on such a task, I hope it may inspire people in other areas to amalgamate their knowledge and add to these projects. Please keep in contact with the UK Network for Malus and we can add all the varieties found on these maps to our database. In return we can assist in identifying varieties unique to your area. All details added to our database will be given full confidentiality. Do not hesitate to contact us on the numbers above.
